FAQ, tips and tricks - Read error

I received read errors while reading a CD and the performance of the drive is poor. I can only read the last session I wrote to the CDR or CDRW.
After updating the firmware revision of my PX-708A using my Windows XP system the drive reads much slower. How can I resolve this?

On ATAPI systems:
Reading problems can have several causes, please check the following points:
- Is your CD damaged, scratched or dirty?

- Is the master / slave setting correctly set?
- Have you installed the latest drivers for your IDE chipset?

- I can only read the last session I wrote to the CDR or CDRW.

When you want to add a new session to an existing multi-session CD you should first import the previously made sessions which are on the CD. If the old session is not imported into the new session the data in it will become unreadable.

- After updating the firmware revision of my PX-708A using my Windows XP system the drive reads much slower. How can I resolve this?

Verify that your drive is configured in windows XP using DUMA 2, it is possible that after a firmware update the drive data transfer mode is changed to PIO MODE 4.
This can reduce the drive's performance dramatically.
Simply change the setting of the drive to UDMA 2 and restart the system.
Your problem will be resolved once the drive is running again in UDMA 2 mode.
