- When I connect the Portable HDD to the computer's USB port, it makes a clicking noise but does not recognize the product?

To make the PX-PH0xU to work you need to have 500 mA of electric current, as specified in the USB standards.
When you are starting up the hard disk initially, sometimes the electric current goes over 500 mA for a fraction of a second. Therefore, to be on the safe side it is preferable to have a 500 mA or more power supply from the interface side in the case of a bus power drive.
Even if the amount of electric power is insufficient, the power is still being supplied despite its insufficiency, and so it appears that the drive is functioning. However, the drive will not spin properly and may generate an abnormal noise.
If the drive is functioning properly with an AC adapter connected, it could be concluded that the supply of electric power from the computer is insufficient.
This would be subject to the computer's specifications and cannot be controlled on the drive side.
In this type of situation we recommend that an AC adapter be used.
