Press Releases - PX-740A

Brussels, May 2005

Plextor launches mid-market dual-layer DVD recorder

Plextor today announces the launch of the PX-740A, an internal E-IDE, dual-layer, DVD and CD re-writer drive. Ideal for the cost-conscious buyer who doesn't want to comprise on quality or speed. Offering fast writing speeds of up to 16x, the drive is ideal for everyday home and small business users, who don't require the extra professional features offered with Plextor's flagship PX-716A dual-layer drive.

The mid range PX-740A DVD recorder is capable of burning 8x DVD+R DL & 4x DVD-R DL,16x DVD-/+R, 8x DVD+RW and 6x DVD-RW. Additionally, the PX-740A can write and read CD's at 48x and re-write CD's at an impressive speed of 32x.

The PX-740A's dual layer format means consumers can burn up to 4 hours of high quality MPEG-2/DVD video on one 8.5 GB DVD in less than 15 minutes. This is perfect for saving hard disk storage and backing up DVD's, CD's, photo albums and other data.
A single layer DVD can be burnt in less than 6 minutes.

About Plextor
Plextor is a leading international manufacturer of extremely reliable, high quality recording equipment and is also one of the pioneers in the field of CD technology. From its parent company, Shinano Kenshi Co. Japan, Plextor has a built up tradition in the development and manufacture of advanced hardware and electronic precision equipment going back to 1918. With head offices in Japan, Europe and the United States the company mainly sells its products through a network of specialised computer dealers. Plextor Europe, established in Brussels, takes responsibility for sales, marketing and technical support in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Since opening its Brussels office in 1994, Plextor has introduced a number of award winning products, including CD/DVD-ROM drives, CD/DVD recordable drives, CD/DVD media and USB Flash Memory Drives (PlexFlash). In addition, Plextor has recently launched a digital video converter - ConvertX:

ConvertX
Convert your old analogue video recordings (e.g. VHS) into digital format (- MPEG 1, 2, 4 and DivX formats) in real-time. ConvertX digitises your favourite videos and enables you to share them with other people in the format of your choice. Select MPEG-1 to save an hour of video on a VCD, for example. MPEG-2 can be used to put 2 hours of video on a DVD. But the most important function is the ability to convert to MPEG-4 and DivX -this format compresses the data and saves a lot of disc space (e.g. with DivX you can put 1 DVD on a 700 MB CD) while preserving quality and without any visible loss of quality.
