Plextor first to market with dual format 8x DVD-Recorder

Plextor, the leading manufacturer of personal storage devices, launches the fastest dual format (DVD-R/RW and +R/RW) internal and external DVD-Recorders on the market. With recording speeds of 8x, the PX-708A and PX-708UF can burn a full DVD (4.7GB) in less than 10 minutes. Both drives also have fast CD capabilities: recording at 40x, re-writing at 24x and reading at 40x.

Both internal and external drives are equipped with an extensive software package that enables users to copy data, music and video onto DVDs and CDs and create back-ups of large files. Thanks to the extensive capacity that DVD media offers, large files can be shared quickly and easily. The package also contains video editing and authoring software that allows customers to edit and save movies.

The internal drive and the dual interface external version, with USB 2.0 and FireWire connections, record at 8x and re-write at 4x using the DVD+R/RW format. With the DVD-R/RW format, both drives record at 4x and re-write at 2x. Both drives read DVD-ROMs at 12x.

The PX-708A and PX-708UF use several technologies to prevent Buffer Underrun errors:

• Buffer Underrun Proof for CD
• Lossless Linking for DVD+R/RW
• Zero Link for DVD-R/RW

Both drives are also able to format while writing through the 'Background Formatting' function.

For the highest quality writing at an optimal speed, Plextor has included its unique PoweRec (Plextor Optimised Writing Error Reduction Control) technology that helps to avoid writing errors during high-speed recording.

Plextor's VariRec (Variable Recording) technology, designed for audiophiles, is also included, enabling the user to select one of eight tone settings to obtain a more personalised sound.

The PX-708A, is available from the end of August 2003 and the PX-708UF, is available from the end of September 2003. Both drives come with a 2 year warranty and free of charge On-Site Collect & Return service for defective drives (within warranty). Local hotline support is also available.
