Plextor launches external dual interface DVD+R/RW drive - Plextor’s first USB2.0 and FireWire drive

Plextor, a leader in personal storage devices today launches its first external, dual interface DVD re-writer - the PlexWriter PX-504UF. It includes both FireWire (IEEE 1394) and USB 2.0 interfaces and writes DVDs at 4x, rewrites at 2.4x and reads at 12x using the industry standard +R/RW technology.

The PX-504UF has a stylish, modern, silver design and provides the convenience of both external USB 2.0 and FireWire connectivity, making it fully hot-pluggable and enables easy sharing between computers. Installation of the drive is quick and easy and its wide compatibility means that stored data can be read on most DVD-players and DVD-ROM drives.

An extensive software package is included with the PX-504UF that allows users to copy data and music onto CDs and DVDs and create back-ups of large files. Software is also provided for video editing and authoring - ideal for creating home videos. It can record up to three hours of video or thousands of high-resolution photographs for example, to one single DVD disc (4.7GB).

The PX-504UF features 'Lossless Linking' technology that ensures high quality DVD+RW recording and the writing of DVD multisessions, and is able to format while writing through its 'Background Formatting' function.

For the highest quality writing at an optimal speed, Plextor has included its unique PowerRec (Plextor Optimised Writing Error Reduction Control) technology that helps to avoid writing errors during high-speed recording. Also, with a 2 MB buffer and Buffer Underrun Proof technology, buffer underrun errors are prevented.

Plextor's VariRec (Variable Recording) technology, designed for audiophiles, is also included, enabling the user to select one of five tone settings to obtain a more personalised sound.
