Plextor launches its first DVD+R/RW Recorder

- High quality, competitively priced drive announced

Plextor, one of the world's leading manufacturers of CD/DVD drives and media, today announces its first DVD recorder - the PX-504A.

Supporting a wide range of CD and DVD media, the PX-504A is ideal for creating home videos, making back-ups of large files, creating digital photo collections and saving music. It can record up to four hours of video or save thousands of high-resolution photographs on to one single DVD disc (4.7 GB) and its excellent compatibility means that stored data can be easily read on most DVD-players and DVD-ROM drives.

The PX-504A can be placed in a vertical position to allow more space and has a fast access time of 140ms for DVD. It features 'Lossless Linking' technology that ensures high quality DVD+RW recording and the writing of DVD multisessions, and is able to format while writing through its 'Background Formatting' function.

For the highest quality writing at an optimal speed, Plextor has included its unique PowerRec (Plextor Optimised Writing Error Reduction Control) technology that helps to avoid writing errors during high-speed recording. Also, with a 2 MB buffer and Buffer Underrun Proof technology, buffer underrun errors are prevented. The drive makes use of a black tray that reduces 'jitter' because the black absorbs some of the diffused reflection that can influence writing quality, therefore creating a higher quality DVD or CD.

The PX-504A comes with an extensive software package:

• Ahead InCD: packet writing software
• Pinnacle Studio 8: video editing and authoring software
• Cyberlink PowerDVD: DVD player software
• PlexTools: CD/DVD utility software

Available from March 2003, the PX-504A includes a comprehensive support package consisting of a two-year warranty including free of charge On-Site Collect & Return Service for defective drives (within warranty) and hotline support.
