Plextor boosts external hard disk capacities
- Fan-less 120GB portable HDD (2,5") and 400GB NAS solution for SOHO/SMEs
Following the successful launch of Plextor's first hard disk products in May 2005, the company today announces two enlarged capacity external hard disk drives for SOHO and SME users.
A tiny, highly portable 120GB unit for personal use (increased from 40 and 80GB), the Plextor PX-PH12U, and a 400GB external Professional network HDD for business applications (increased from 250GB), the Plextor PX-EH40L. Offering convenient and spacious external storage, the silent operation fan-less drives offer the same premium quality and reliability associated with Plextor optical devices.

Plextor Portable HDD - 120GB
The growth of digital media such as video, audio and pictures is driving the demand for portable storage devices. Plextor has provided the ideal solution: a high capacity, fast USB 2.0, highly portable bus-powered hard disk drive that is very easy to use - requiring no software and no separate power supply. Housed in a stylish brushed aluminium case and so small it easily fits in a pocket, the handy PX-PH12U is available in 120GB capacity and also comes with a useful write protection switch.
Plextor Professional Network HDD - 400GB
Plextor has overcome the problem of small business networks requiring extra storage and back up: a convenient 400GB Network Attached Storage (NAS) device that comes equipped with extra features.
Importantly, the fan-less drive operates silently for minimum intrusion in an office environment. The noise reduction is achieved by the heat-released aluminum case and the convection cooling design which needs no fan installed. The system will quietly go into sleep mode when not accessed for a period of time.
As well as providing instant shared storage across the network, the PX-EH40L includes: a print server that can share a printer over the network when connected to it via USB; and an automated backup scheduler from the NAS to a USB-connected external HDD of the same capacity. Additionally, the Professional Network HDD is both secure and flexible: it includes a high security feature so that the administrator can limit access to certain folders; and it can be configured as a dedicated FTP server.
Availability and Warranty
Both products are available in October 2005 from the network of Plextor dealers.
They are covered by Plextor's Fast Warranty Service (2-year warranty in the EU, Norway and Switzerland (Collect & Return); 1 year in other countries). This market-leading service guarantees to have a fully operational drive back to the customer within five working days, free of charge.
